War on Guns (Debate)

Opening Statement:

As my partner said in his statement, gun control is unconstitutional. Sure, every single gun out in the world has the potential to be dangerous, and they should be handled with extreme amount of care. The average American persists to believe that guns are harmful and very dangerous to have. Guns are only dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands. And then what. These criminals always tend to get their hands on guns, and they terrorize the happy citizens with them. What are they going to defend themselves with? You can’t bring a knife to a gunfight, its just suicide. Guns are used for self-defense, and that will remain the #1 use for the everyday American.  It is true that almost 100,000 people are injured, and or killed by guns in the United States. However, 4 million people have conceal-to-carry permits for their guns that they have acquired. A statistic shows that these fatalities are mostly accidental and that only 17 percent are from criminal usage. An argument that people use in favor of gun control is that 1000’s of illegal weapons are sold illegally in the United States; therefore banning all guns is completely necessary. Wrong. Not only do people rely on the purchasing of guns for self defense, but the U.S. government relies on gun purchases for the 100 million $ revenue they make annually. Establishing a gun control would make our national debt that much worse each year. Not only do guns help people in life-threatening situations, but they also improve our nation as a whole. That is all.

Questions: Citizens have the right to self-protection. Local police forces are not able to protect it's citizens, they primarily investigate and try to solve the crimes after the fact, so why put that pressure on the local police to not do their job properly?

Closing Statement:

We all know that there is a progressive movement of gun control that is trying its hardest to become a reality. If this nation decides to go back on our individual constitutional rights, that will just as bad as the mistake of prohibition back in the 1900’s.  A great example is Australia. They ended up listening to the people and banning guns and just listen to these stats. The assault rate of a person has gone up 200%. Immediately after the ban, the robbery and armed robbery rate was up 200% over the pre-ban rates. Homicides with the usage of a firearm are up 171%. Crimes with a knife or a sharp instrument are through the roof. Can they possibly ban knifes as well? These numbers would transfer over to our country just as bad, if not worse. The last time I looked, criminals don’t actually follow the law, do they. Drugs are banned from usage and distribution in the U.S. Why are they all over the streets in every major city, every urban town, everywhere someone goes? Once you take away a civilians firearm how will they defend themselves form these criminals that have unlimited access to these guns. Banning of guns would do nothing but increase crime rates and do nothing to erase the actual gun crimes in our beloved nation. That is all.

Review: I believe me and my partner did a good job on moving the classes opinions during our debate. I stand firmly with my argument. Gun control is bad. During my presentation, I think I could of made more eye contact with the audience more then I had orignannly done. My vocals were clear and my organization of my argument was on key. I believe I did a quality job on this debate project.
